Skin and Bones is an interesting exhibition that has been taking place at Somerset House in London and will be continuing until August, 10th.
Looking at and especially focusing on the fusion between the worlds of fashion and architecture, Skin & Bones introduces visitors to the key principles underpinning these two worlds - from structure to suspension and deconstruction to reconstruction. The idea is to show comparative examples from both disciplines, highlighting the avant-garde and experimental nature of design. The show explains how the two worlds share not only a vocabulary, but also objectives and ideals. With key trends ranging from Shelter, Geometry, Structural skin to Pleating, Draping and Folding etc.., as-well-as featured designers from the likes of Ralph Rucci, Hussein Chalayan, Issey Miyake, Junya Watanabe etc.., the exhibition is definitely worth the visit. You’d really have to see it yourself to get the full benefit and knowledge. From my personal experience, I really thought there could have been more focus on architecture than there was but there were some very outstanding and extremely amazing crafted garments and a good lesson on structure and silhouette – a true revelation.
