"SOMETIMES IT SNOWS IN APRIL"

TEATUM JONES|SS/12 PRESENTATION

As exciting and as dramatic as fashion shows are, I must say I do sometimes prefer presentations because while there may be the obvious befit of less queuing and herding, I like the intimate nature of these particular shows - the atmosphere is usually different and of-course there is that special opportunity to get up-close and personal with the clothes on the models and more time to absorb the collection and really appreciate the details. Being their LFW debut, the Teatum Jones presentation was a much welcomed breath of fresh air. The show was well produced with magnificent styling; the entire setting really complimented the stunningly beautiful collection to perfection.

What I adored most was the dark, complex inspiration behind the collection which was quite evident in the clothes that stood before us. The story -
"examining the sentimental perfection of 1950s American Suburbia and explores the darker side of life behind the sugary pastel coloured walls. A story of a vibrant young couple swept along by a well packaged dream of perfection and what happens when that artificial dream expires and leaves you with nothing but your own surreal and frantic desire to escape: a secret desire hidden well beneath a cloak of self deception, repeatedly used as an aesthetic towards the reality of soured dreams and painful truths".

Earlier I'd  passed by the Teatum Jones showroom at the exhibition so I kind-of knew what was to be expected later in the presentation. When the time finally approached I rushed to the show with enthusiasm. Upon entrance, you were welcomed by a well-decorated, yet shabby chic staged room, where the models gracefully walked, exhibiting the pieces. The collection, named "Sometimes it snows in April", featured thin, sheer fabrics in pretty blush pinks, dreamy blues and pale lavenders. The fluid silks in crepe de chine and sheer organza which were coupled with buttery soft leather had an uber luxurious feel which was just divine, while on the hand were these added tailored elements that evoked a nonchalant edge to toughen up the otherwise saccharine sweet collection. There was a refreshing delicate balance between masculine tailoring and voluminous feminine shapes I had never seen before which placed Teatum Jones right on top on my list of best collections in SS/12.
