MELABELLE EVENT | AW/12 COLLECTION

A few days ago I attended the Melabelle Press & Blogger Event at their pop-up shop on Portobello Rd where they were showcasing their AW 12 collection. The collection was a mixture of wearable pieces with signature styles in flattering and classic shapes and there was a variety of bespoke prints within the collection ranging from Stars and Jag print to Dalton dancers.

This inspiration behind the dancers was drawn from an old envelope that belonged to the designers grandmother which had a print of silhouettes of dancers on it; and Bella's love and connection to that print was quite evident in her collection as it featured on a few of her pieces particularly on the silk scarves and dresses. All the fabrics used were hand dyed and the prints designed by Bella herself.  The designer told me of the importance of 'simplicity' and the effortlessness of style in her collections and how these two were key elements to the brand - Melabelle have clearly achieved that with this collection as the pieces were classic but functional and adaptable for any occasion.

What I liked most about the collection was that you could take any of the items and dress them up or down without trying too hard. But my favourite items had to be the 'Pea coat' in camel which I tried on (also comes in black) and I quite liked the LBD with gold sequin detail around the hem and necklace (as seen on Bella on the night). Overall the collection was beautiful, relaxed with a 'tomboy-ish' feel and the pieces within it are a definite wardrobe essential to any modern woman's lifestyle
